Top Seattle Engagement photo Locations

Don’t Stress, they aren’t hard to find!

Working on finding the right spot for your engagement photos? I hear that. The best Seattle engagement photo locations are all about finding the right balance. You want something thats going to look, and feel great. Good news for you, I have made this entire damn list, just for you!

Now, best time to get engagement photos done is going to be either the fall season before your wedding the following year, OR spring before your wedding in the summer. Generally, 6-8 months before your wedding is best.

Things to keep in mind when planning your engagement:

What Places Mean the most to you?

This is the most important factor in choosing your location. Ask yourselves:

  • Are you urban explorers who thrive in the city?
  • Does nature make you feel most like yourselves?
  • Are there specific places that hold meaning in your relationship?

The best engagement photos happen when you feel comfortable. Forcing yourselves into a setting that doesn’t feel like “you” will show in the photos if you aren’t comfortable in front of the camera.

These locations are just suggestions, if you have a strong feeling that you want photos at this little coffee shop down the street, thats going to be a great spot to go get photos taken. If it means something to you, we should go there.

Time of Year

Seattle’s weather and scenery change dramatically with the seasons, so timing matters:

  • Spring (March-May): Cherry blossoms, tulips, and vibrant greenery make for stunning backdrops. However, be prepared for rain showers – always have a backup plan!
  • Summer (June-August): Our golden period with the most reliable weather, longest daylight hours, and access to all outdoor locations. Bonus: sunset sessions during summer give you that dreamy golden light.
  • Fall (September-October): Rich autumn colors transform many of our parks and gardens. The lighting is often more dramatic and moody – perfect if that’s your vibe.
  • Winter (November-February): Embrace the PNW moodiness! Foggy city views, snow-capped mountains (on clear days), and empty beaches can create striking, intimate images. Just know we’ll be working with limited daylight.

Special Passes

Some of Washington’s most beautiful photo locations require permits or special recreation passes, and showing up without one can result in a hefty fine on your car while we are off getting photos! A good rule of thumb is, if it’s a public park you probably need a discover pass. If it’s a national park, you will need the Northwest Forest Pass.

The two common passes you’ll need are:

  • Discover Pass ($30 annual/$10 daily) – Required for state parks, DNR lands, and Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife lands. This covers spots like Deception Pass, Larrabee State Park, and many others.
  • Northwest Forest Pass ($30 annual/$5 daily) – Required for National Forest recreation sites in Washington and Oregon. You’ll need this for locations like Franklin Falls, Rattlesnake Ledge trailhead, and many mountain areas.

Getting these passes isn’t just about avoiding tickets – the fees directly support maintenance of these gorgeous natural spaces so they stay beautiful for future couples. Many locations also have specific photography permit requirements, especially for professional photography sessions.

What to Wear

Your outfits make a huge difference in how your photos turn out:

  • Coordinate, don’t match: Gone are the Y2K days of matching white shirts and jeans. Instead, choose complimentary colors and styles that show your personalities.
  • Layer up: Seattle weather can change quickly, and layers photograph really well! adding dimension and texture always look good.
  • Consider your location: Hiking up a mountain trail? Maybe skip the formal wear. Downtown urban session? That’s where your stylish outfits can shine.
  • Bring a second outfit: I always recommend having two different looks – I’d suggest one casual and one dressier option to give variety to your gallery.
